Running low on funds, ex-CIA agent Scott Sterling moves into an apartment over a Bangkok bar. He teaches scuba diving and does occasional investigative work usually involving missing bargirls or wayward spouses.

It's pretty easy for a story taking place in Bangkok to win me over. I thought Skytrain got off to a slow start, but redeemed itself once the focus turned to murder. I always enjoy the Bangkok setting, yet here the author paints a darker Bangkok than I usually read about. Sinister things are going on in the Land of Smiles, and no farang will ever completely understand it.Product details

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. My only negative...is that it ended!
I'm not a big reader but I like this guy's work. "Skytrain" is a good one.
Wonderful escapism with a cynical twist!
Great read... some real insight into Thailand and Bangkok. The crime solving sucks you in. Will be buying the sequel soon.
It passed the time. I enjoyed the fact that the backdrop was Bangkok but the story could have been better.
Author Dean Barrett is very well versed in Thai culture and language. I found myself relating to many of his insights as I too lived in Bangkok during WW Vietnam. This was the third book by Dean which I've read. It won't be the last.
Obviously Dean draws on many of his own experiences in telling this story. The same is true for me, as the reader. Having lived in Bangkok for several years and worked for Thai Air for a couple decades, I am very familiar with the Thai mystique, and have a deep fondness for the people of that unique culture. So, it is pure fun for me to go back to Thailand and into the guts of Bangkok as Dean expertly and lovingly guides us through this wonderful cultural maze. This was a hell of a fun read.
